Merida is home to many unique and interesting restaurants, many

of which have never been experienced by ex-pats, tourists and local citizens. Yucatan food is distinctively different from other parts of Mexico, with a strong influence from traditional Mayan food recipes. This includes many of the classic Mayan dishes, ingredients from a colonial occupation that have been introduced to create some great fusion dishes only found in Merida and throughout the state of Yucatan. Spanish and Lebanese cuisine are two of the strongest influences in many foods.

               It should be noted that a lot of dishes are simply “Mexican” 

               and are wrongly attributed to being Yucatan food simply                       because they are present on many menus. eg. Queso 

               fundido, guacamole, tacos (in general)
